League of St. Benedict

From the founding days of Saint Benedict Parish up to the present, devoted parishioners have contributed to the work of educating young people in what is now Saint Benedict Cathedral School. As a Catholic community of faith, we celebrate the racial, economic, religious, and geographic diversity of our students and their families. We work hard for excellence in academics. We have been good stewards of old and new facilities that enhance our work of education.

As we continue this invaluable ministry of forming young people in a Catholic, Christian environment, we recognize that people beyond our parish may wish to join us in supporting this important mission.

The League of St. Benedict is an Annual Giving program to benefit St. Benedict Cathedral School. Contributions will support the school’s operating budget, including salaries and curriculum. Membership is open to any individual, foundation, or corporation making an annual minimum gift of $1,000.

The League of St. Benedict helps St. Benedict Cathedral School to thrive and stay committed to our Catholic faith and academic excellence.

While annual giving is just that, annual, we also welcome multiyear pledges for these gifts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How important is the League of St. Benedict to St. Benedict Cathedral School?
While St. Ben’s carefully stewards all of our resources, the cost of a parochial education cannot be sustained by parish subsidy and tuition alone. Your support for the League of St. Benedict plays a critical role in meeting the annual financial needs of the school and its programs. Gifts may also take the form of Sponsorships for the various events throughout the year, like A Night at Mardi Gras, Raven Raffle, and Cathedral Style Show.

What is St. Benedict Cathedral School’s financial need from the 2021 League of St. Benedict?
The current need is $300,000.

Why not just raise tuition for families?
Tuition only covers a percentage of the cost of educating each student. A diverse student population enriches the educational experience for all our students and families. Hospitality is a cornerstone of our parish values. The League of St. Benedict will assist our school in becoming a more welcoming place to all.

How much should I give to the League of St. Benedict?
Although gifts to our school in any amount are gratefully accepted, the League of St. Benedict donor distinction involves a minimum contribution of $1,000 per year. Donors are free to set up multiyear pledges. We accept one-time or monthly payments. Annual gifts are typically due by December 15. Your giving is a personal decision that deserves prayerful consideration. Remember, your contribution will directly enhance the educational experience of each one of our students. We value all League of St. Benedict commitments, no matter the longevity or amount of the gift.

Is my gift tax-deductible?
St. Benedict Cathedral School is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit educational institution, and we encourage your tax-deductible participation in our work.

May I use a credit card?
The school accepts gifts of cash, checks, and stocks. We are working toward accepting credit cards at this time.

Does my employer offer a matching gift?

Many companies do offer gift-matching to non-profit organizations. Please search your company name at www.matchinggifts.com/rit, or check with your Human Resources department.
